Democracy has spoken, as a number of specialized European journalists from all over the continent have chosen the Kia EV6 as car of the year.

The initial pool included all new cars released in Europe during 2022, the jurors had to elect a short list of 7 cars. In the second and final election phase, each one of the 59 electors was awarded 25 points to allot objectively based on his personal judgment.

With the Kia EV6 taking the lead with 279 points, with the rest of the list looking like this:

  • Renault Megane Electric 265
  • Hyundai Ioniq 5 261
  • Peugeot 308 191
  • Skoda Enyaq iV 185
  • Ford Mustang Mach-e 150
  • Cupra Born 144

It comes as non-surprise that 6 of the 7 chosen cars were pure EVs, with only one a plug-in hybrid, it reflects the general trend in Europe and across the world for the accelerated transition towards Electric Vehicles. With the Peugeot 308 making the exception only in consideration for the car owners who still don’t have easy access to charging facilities.

The journalists had to balance multiple factors in order to make an objective and logical choice, they clearly have put technological innovation as the main criteria, followed by other traditional factors like price, comfort, practicality and last but not least popularity among consumers.

The Kia was rightly chosen for the first position as it clearly surpasses the other candidates in performance and range, it’s also more comfortable and fun to drive especially with the extremely ergonomic low seating and easy to use infotainment interface.
